What you cover, in rotation

The group works through these in order and then begins again on fresh ground. Join at whatever stage it is on — nothing here assumes you were there for the last one, and nothing runs out — or drop in for a single session if that is all you can manage.

  1. Stage 1Bachata Timing, The Basic Step & The Tap
    • Bachata musical structure: bongos, güira, bass guitar and requinto.
    • Side-to-side basic, forward-and-back basic, and the count-4 hip tap.
    • Closed against open frame, and connection without tension.
  2. Stage 2Body Rolls, Chest Isolations & Sensual Waves
    • Spinal waves: upper chest isolation, ribcage slides and pelvic tucks.
    • Leading and following body waves with frame pressure, never force.
    • Basic right and left turns with smooth prep and follow-through.
  3. Stage 3Madrid Step, Shadow Position & Smooth Dips
    • The Madrid step variation and syncopated footwork accents.
    • Transitioning into shadow position.
    • Safe, supported weight-bearing dips and body roll exits.
  4. Stage 4Musicality, Flow Combinations & Graduation Social
    • Identifying the derecho, majao and mambo sections in a song.
    • Linking all four weeks into one fluid social combination.
    • A graduation social with community dancers.

4 sessions in the cycle, then it begins again on new ground.
