What you leave with

A capstone ascent on a classic route, belayed and cleaned by your own cohort

The transition from indoor climbing to real rock. Movement on granite, top-rope belaying, anchor building to SERENE principles, rappelling, and crack technique.

The ratio is four climbers to one guide and every anchor is redundant. Anchor mechanics is the stage that decides whether you can climb outdoors without a guide.

What you cover, in rotation

The group works through these in order and then begins again on fresh ground. Join at whatever stage it is on — nothing here assumes you were there for the last one, and nothing runs out — or drop in for a single session if that is all you can manage.

  1. Stage 1Harness Fit, Figure-8 Knots & Top-Rope Belaying
    • Harness fit, helmet checks, and dynamic rope anatomy.
    • Tying the Figure-8 Follow-Through with a backup stopper knot.
    • The PBUS belay method with assisted-braking devices.
    • Climbing calls and buddy check routines.
  2. Stage 2Rock Movement, Footwork & Balance on Real Granite
    • From plastic holds to granite friction, edging and smearing.
    • Straight arms, hip rotation, and centre-of-gravity shifts.
    • Working through outdoor exposure on controlled top-rope ascents.
  3. Stage 3Anchor Mechanics, SERENE Principles & Rappelling
    • Top-rope anchors from static webbing, cordelette and lockers.
    • SERENE: solid, equalised, redundant, non-extending, strong.
    • Friction hitches and independent rappel descents.
  4. Stage 4Multipitch Concepts, Crack Climbing & Capstone Ascent
    • Hand jamming, finger locks and layback technique in granite cracks.
    • Cleaning anchors and lower-off protocols.
    • A capstone climb on a classic route with a group belay.

4 sessions in the cycle, then it begins again on new ground.
