What you cover, in rotation

The group works through these in order and then begins again on fresh ground. Join at whatever stage it is on — nothing here assumes you were there for the last one, and nothing runs out — or drop in for a single session if that is all you can manage.

  1. Stage 1Patient Assessment System & Scene Safety
    • Scene size-up, PPE, mechanism of injury, and number of patients.
    • Primary assessment: airway, breathing, circulation, disability, environment.
    • Secondary survey: head-to-toe exam, vital signs, and SAMPLE history.
  2. Stage 2Musculoskeletal Injuries, Fractures & Improvised Splinting
    • Assessing sprains, dislocations and fractures in remote terrain.
    • Rigid, anatomical and soft splints from SAM splints, poles, pads and cravats.
    • Joint reduction considerations and field pain management.
  3. Stage 3Environmental Hazards — Hypothermia, Heat & Bites
    • Heat stroke against heat exhaustion in arid canyons.
    • Hypothermia wrap construction and cold-water immersion response.
    • Rattlesnake bites, scorpion stings, and anaphylaxis management.
  4. Stage 4Shock, Evacuation Decisions & Mass Casualty Scenarios
    • Compensatory against decompensatory shock.
    • Litter building, improvised stretcher carries, and helicopter LZ setup.
    • A full outdoor emergency simulation with live patient actors.

4 sessions in the cycle, then it begins again on new ground.
