Open Water Ocean Swimming, Sighting & Swell Technique
Pool-fit but ocean-nervous? Work up to a one-mile swim round the buoys at La Jolla.
Fifty minutes on soft sand with a kettlebell. Low joint impact, high everything else.
What you leave with
A full beach conditioning circuit completed unbroken, finishing in the Pacific
Functional athletic training on the sand at first light. Kettlebell ballistics, sandbag carries, sled pulls and ocean sprints — soft sand does the joint protection and the humbling in equal measure.
Every station has three scalable versions, so a first-timer and somebody who lifts four days a week can do the same session.
Once a week · 50 min a session
The group works through these in order and then begins again on fresh ground. Join at whatever stage it is on — nothing here assumes you were there for the last one, and nothing runs out — or drop in for a single session if that is all you can manage.
4 sessions in the cycle, then it begins again on new ground.
Led by StrongFirst or CSCS certified strength and conditioning coach.
Kettlebell form calibration, intensity scaling, and safety.
