What you leave with

A five to six mile technical loop run with climbing, descending and flat, without braking downhill

Navigating rugged canyon singletrack with speed, efficiency and no injuries. High-cadence strides, uphill power-hiking, downhill gliding, and terrain scanning.

The downhill stage is the one that changes people's running. The braking instinct is what wrecks quads and ankles, and it takes a coach to unlearn.

What you cover, in rotation

The group works through these in order and then begins again on fresh ground. Join at whatever stage it is on — nothing here assumes you were there for the last one, and nothing runs out — or drop in for a single session if that is all you can manage.

  1. Stage 1Cadence, Midfoot Strike & The 180 BPM Rhythm
    • From heavy heel-striking to light, bouncy midfoot landings.
    • Running to a metronome at 175–185 steps a minute.
    • Upright posture, relaxed shoulders, and a forward lean from the ankles.
  2. Stage 2Steep Uphill Power-Hiking & Energy Conservation
    • The hands-on-quads power-hike for grades over 10%.
    • Heart rate zone management and preventing early anaerobic fatigue.
    • Breath synchronisation on climbs at 3:3 or 2:2 step-to-breath.
  3. Stage 3Downhill Flight Mechanics & Loose Rock Agility
    • Overcoming the braking instinct and leaning into the slope angle.
    • High-cadence footwork over rocks, roots and loose shale.
    • Scanning ten to fifteen feet ahead rather than at your feet.
  4. Stage 4Technical Trail Loop & Gear Strategy
    • A five to six mile loop with climbing, descending and flat running.
    • Hydration vests, flasks, electrolytes, and shoe tread compared.
    • Recovery stretching and a trail community tailgate.

4 sessions in the cycle, then it begins again on new ground.
