What you leave with

The confidence to read a loan agreement, a payslip and a misleading chart

A warm, empowering series for adults carrying maths trauma. Everyday finance, career exam preparation and practical numeracy, in a room of people in exactly the same position.

It starts by naming the problem: timed-test anxiety and the myth of the maths brain. Then it does percentages, compound interest and misleading charts, which is most of what an adult actually needs.

What you cover, in rotation

The group works through these in order and then begins again on fresh ground. Join at whatever stage it is on — nothing here assumes you were there for the last one, and nothing runs out — or drop in for a single session if that is all you can manage.

  1. Stage 1Healing Math Anxiety & The Intuition of Numbers
    • Maths trauma, timed-test anxiety, and the myth of the maths brain.
    • Mental shortcuts: friendly numbers, doubling and halving, benchmark percentages.
    • Tipping, discounts, sales tax and grocery unit pricing.
  2. Stage 2Fractions, Decimals, Ratios & Practical Conversions
    • Fractions, decimals and percentages as one concept in three outfits.
    • Recipe scaling and reading a construction tape measure.
    • Metric and imperial conversions, and medical dosage calculations.
  3. Stage 3Compound Interest, Debt Math & Everyday Finance
    • The Rule of 72, and compound interest for you and against you.
    • True loan costs, APRs and mortgage amortisation.
    • Paycheck deductions, marginal tax brackets and retirement returns.
  4. Stage 4Interpreting Statistics, Graphs & Empowered Graduation
    • Spotting misleading charts: truncated axes and cherry-picked baselines.
    • Basic probability in health and risk assessment.
    • A celebration with coffee and certificates.

4 sessions in the cycle, then it begins again on new ground.
