Harbour & Swell is my father's boat and my grandfather's mooring. He ran fishing charters out of Dana Point from 1984 until his knees gave out, and I took the licence over in 2011 and turned it towards evenings and wildlife instead.

There are two vessels. Osprey is a 38ft sloop that takes eight and does the sunset and whale trips; the RIB does the sea caves, six at a time, because anything bigger cannot get into them. I skipper both, my sister Ana runs the shore end, and there is no third crew who might turn out to be someone you have never met.

We go out in weather other operators sit out, and we cancel in weather they do not. Both of those are the same judgement and it is mine to make. If a trip is called off you are not charged and you are told why, that day.
